Tane Mahuta

For the past few weeks, we have been out gardening. We have been working on 4 things the outdoor classroom, Greenhouse, Cutting trees and our main gardening area. We have split into groups so we can get more done.

For the last week, we had planned what we were doing for the garden beds. We were designing drawings about our ideas and what we wanted it to look like. After that we got ideas and we went outside to look at the area we had. Then we started to work on the classroom clearing out one side of the classroom and deciding if we wanted to keep the stuff or biff it.

This week we cleaned the other side of the classroom and started to dig the soil to make it soft, when we were digging we found lots of worms. Also when we were cleaning the classroom there were lots of spiders and some cool tools.

Here is what worms do, they are good for the dirt because worms help to increase the amount of air and water that gets into the soil. They break down into an organic matter. When worms eat the grass they leave there manure behind and it can be a type of fertiliser.
