Tieke

On Monday the 23rd of September, My class and Sh moved into our new building. There are three buildings called Mohua, Rioriro and Tieke they are all identical and they named after native birds.

This is Riroriro also known as a grey warbler, they got their name because they are grey and they sing in groups, warbler means birds that sing in small groups.

My class moved into Tieke with Sh we have all been liking it so far but sometimes it can get noisy.

When I first entered the building I noticed the cool lights on the back of the tv that changes colours, I also noticed that we had a teard seating area which we called the quiet area, where we meet in the morning and where we come all together to talk. I also noticed that there were lots of windows which meant more light and there were also some parts that aren't finished like there are, holes in the roof, wires that are hanging out and there are also hanging lights.

When I walked into the new buildings I thought that they are a bit stupid because they were all open and they were all right next to each other so we always have to whisper, but I thought that having a bigger class and sharing a class was cool.

I felt safe and warm as I walked in I felt happy and excited that we get a new classroom and we don't get an old stinky classroom I also felt happy that I could be with my friends in  Sh.

Overall I thought the building was alright they just need to be finished, it's annoying that we always whisper now and we can hear all the older kids which are annoying.

Division

This week we have been looking at division, we were given partners and we have to turn number question into word questions for them.

A, If I have 72 cookies and I wanted to share with 8 people how many would everyone get each?

B, if there were 81 people and they needed to be put into 9 groups how many would be in each group?

C, if Mya had 96 lollies and she had to share them evenly between 8 people how many would they get each?

D, If there were 120 people who trialled for basketball and we had to split them into 5 teams how many in each team?

There are the questions for my buddy but if you also want to work it out you can :)

Cookie monster !

This week in food tex we have been looking at cookies, On Wednesday we prepared the cookie dough and on Thursday we weighed them and cooked them. I was in a team with Jaxon.

When we weighed all of our cookie dough is came to a total of 382g.

After we got our total we had to divide it by 12 because we were making 12 cookies and our answer was 31.2g per cookie so after we go that, we had made 12 cookies as equal as they could be.

Then we rolled them into balls and put the one cookie we weighed on the corner then, we pressed down all of the cookies with a fork so there would be lines after that Jaxon put them in the oven for about 12 minutes.

While they were cooking Jaxon had a prediction that the weight of the cookies would go down because when they are cooking all the moisture would come out. He was correct our cookies now weighed 27. We took the cookies out when they were a nice golden colour.

These cookies turned out really good and delicious with all the chocolate chips but I wasn't the biggest fan of the cranberries :)

Climate Chaos - Water cycle

This week in science we are looking at the water cycle and how it works. Today we had to put these scientific words together if they had something in common.

My group placed water cycle next to carbon dioxide, because oxygen is in the air and the plants. and plants can't be made without carbon dioxide.

We also put climate change with carbon dioxide because without carbon dioxide we would have no plants or trees because we would have no oxygen. But the problem is we have too much carbon dioxide for all the plants in the world.

I would like your feedback and see what you think.

Here are some scientific words.

Scientific words:

  •  Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapour.
  • Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
  • Condensation. When water vapour cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
  • Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the waters falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
  • Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.

Tane Mahuta

For the past few weeks, we have been out gardening. We have been working on 4 things the outdoor classroom, Greenhouse, Cutting trees and our main gardening area. We have split into groups so we can get more done.

For the last week, we had planned what we were doing for the garden beds. We were designing drawings about our ideas and what we wanted it to look like. After that we got ideas and we went outside to look at the area we had. Then we started to work on the classroom clearing out one side of the classroom and deciding if we wanted to keep the stuff or biff it.

This week we cleaned the other side of the classroom and started to dig the soil to make it soft, when we were digging we found lots of worms. Also when we were cleaning the classroom there were lots of spiders and some cool tools.

Here is what worms do, they are good for the dirt because worms help to increase the amount of air and water that gets into the soil. They break down into an organic matter. When worms eat the grass they leave there manure behind and it can be a type of fertiliser.
