Tieke

On Monday the 23rd of September, My class and Sh moved into our new building. There are three buildings called Mohua, Rioriro and Tieke they are all identical and they named after native birds.

Image result for Tieke

This is the bird Tieke also known as a saddleback, It gets its name because on there back they have a chestnut colour patch on there back that looks like a saddle.

Image result for Mohua

This is the Mohua also known as the Yellowhead, they are called yellowhead birds because of the there bright yellow head that you can't miss.

Image result for Riroriro

This is Riroriro also known as a grey warbler, they got their name because they are grey and they sing in groups, warbler means birds that sing in small groups.

My class moved into Tieke with Sh we have all been liking it so far but sometimes it can get noisy.

When I first entered the building I noticed the cool lights on the back of the tv that changes colours, I also noticed that we had a teard seating area which we called the quiet area, where we meet in the morning and where we come all together to talk. I also noticed that there were lots of windows which meant more light and there were also some parts that aren't finished like there are, holes in the roof, wires that are hanging out and there are also hanging lights.

When I walked into the new buildings I thought that they are a bit stupid because they were all open and they were all right next to each other so we always have to whisper, but I thought that having a bigger class and sharing a class was cool.

I felt safe and warm as I walked in I felt happy and excited that we get a new classroom and we don't get an old stinky classroom I also felt happy that I could be with my friends in  Sh.

Overall I thought the building was alright they just need to be finished, it's annoying that we always whisper now and we can hear all the older kids which are annoying.

Division

This week we have been looking at division, we were given partners and we have to turn number question into word questions for them.

A, If I have 72 cookies and I wanted to share with 8 people how many would everyone get each?

B, if there were 81 people and they needed to be put into 9 groups how many would be in each group?

C, if Mya had 96 lollies and she had to share them evenly between 8 people how many would they get each?

D, If there were 120 people who trialled for basketball and we had to split them into 5 teams how many in each team?

There are the questions for my buddy but if you also want to work it out you can :)

Freddy !

L.O: I can perform using my VOICE.I can discuss how healthy eating keeps me physically healthy.

This week we have been looking at healthy eating, we were also looking at puppets. We had to create puppets to talk about healthy eating or we could make a song.

I drew an eggplant and named it Freddy and I am in a group with Jaz & Emily. We haven't recorded yet, but we are going to make a short video.

Cookie monster !

This week in food tex we have been looking at cookies, On Wednesday we prepared the cookie dough and on Thursday we weighed them and cooked them. I was in a team with Jaxon.

When we weighed all of our cookie dough is came to a total of 382g.

After we got our total we had to divide it by 12 because we were making 12 cookies and our answer was 31.2g per cookie so after we go that, we had made 12 cookies as equal as they could be.

Then we rolled them into balls and put the one cookie we weighed on the corner then, we pressed down all of the cookies with a fork so there would be lines after that Jaxon put them in the oven for about 12 minutes.

While they were cooking Jaxon had a prediction that the weight of the cookies would go down because when they are cooking all the moisture would come out. He was correct our cookies now weighed 27. We took the cookies out when they were a nice golden colour.

These cookies turned out really good and delicious with all the chocolate chips but I wasn't the biggest fan of the cranberries :)

Climate Chaos - Water cycle

This week in science we are looking at the water cycle and how it works. Today we had to put these scientific words together if they had something in common.

My group placed water cycle next to carbon dioxide, because oxygen is in the air and the plants. and plants can't be made without carbon dioxide.

We also put climate change with carbon dioxide because without carbon dioxide we would have no plants or trees because we would have no oxygen. But the problem is we have too much carbon dioxide for all the plants in the world.

I would like your feedback and see what you think.

Here are some scientific words.

Scientific words:

  •  Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapour.
  • Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
  • Condensation. When water vapour cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
  • Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the waters falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
  • Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.

Tane Mahuta

For the past few weeks, we have been out gardening. We have been working on 4 things the outdoor classroom, Greenhouse, Cutting trees and our main gardening area. We have split into groups so we can get more done.

For the last week, we had planned what we were doing for the garden beds. We were designing drawings about our ideas and what we wanted it to look like. After that we got ideas and we went outside to look at the area we had. Then we started to work on the classroom clearing out one side of the classroom and deciding if we wanted to keep the stuff or biff it.

This week we cleaned the other side of the classroom and started to dig the soil to make it soft, when we were digging we found lots of worms. Also when we were cleaning the classroom there were lots of spiders and some cool tools.

Here is what worms do, they are good for the dirt because worms help to increase the amount of air and water that gets into the soil. They break down into an organic matter. When worms eat the grass they leave there manure behind and it can be a type of fertiliser.

Team work

This week in our P.E Hurumanu we have been working on teamwork. We played in the new gym and there were three games set up there was Floor hockey, Bench ball & Football.

Our activity was hockey For this activity I rated my self as a level 3
To achieve at level 3 I have to show that I can consistently always make a contribution and help the team try harder.

During the game of hockey I showed that I am working at level 3 by playing the game fairly and helping my team, These examples show that I have met the standard for level 3
While playing the Cross-court games, something that I found challenging was when my team was cheating. The reason I found this challenging was because they wouldn't listen and they kept cheating which I thought wasn't fair on the other team.
However, my team did not overcome it and I think my team need to work together and not cheat.

Next week I am aiming to work at level 4 To make sure that I am working that level I am going to work on making a team goal and always encourage them and help them.

P.E

This week in P.E, we played two games the first one was floor hockey and the second one was 6 corner soccer. We also did a warm-up where we were in a group of three and combined you had to do 100 shuttles and if you and one of your other people in your team went and the same time it would double. You always had to have at least one at the start.

This is what I rated my self. Our first activity was floor hockey, For this activity, I rated my self as a 3. To achieve level 3 I have to show that I can consistently play the game and help my team by playing. During the first game of floor hockey, I showed that I am working at level 3 by Playing the game and helping my team, These examples show that I have met the standard for level 3.

Our second activity was 6 corner soccer For this activity I rated my self as a 4. To achieve at level 4 I have to show that I can consistently help my team by encouraging them and being positive. During the first game of 6 corner soccer, I showed that I am working at level 5 by helping my team and asking them if they could be goalie so they didn't hit our post and I told people we should go for this certain group because they were only hit once. These examples show that I have met the standard for level 3.

x

Next week I am aiming to work at level 5 To make sure that I am working that level I am going to work on my attitude because sometimes I get angry and I will help my team more by getting more involved in the game and helping others who don't know how to play or needs help.

My team reflection

This week in our P.E Hurumanu we have been Been playing kick long ball and bench ball and we marked ourselfs where in the gym for pe

Our first activity was bench long ball, For this activity I rated my self as a 4
To achieve at level 4 I have to show that I can consistently help my team and encourage them and have a positive attitude.
During the first game of kick long ball I showed that I am working at level 4. by helping my team and saying positive things like when I told Jaz she was good at hitting the people with the ball.

Our second activity was bench ball, For this activity I rated my self as a 4
To achieve at level 4 I have to show that I can consistently help them get the ball down the court say positive things. During the first game of kick long ball I showed that I am working at level 4 by  helping my team getting people out telling people what they are doing wrong and right, and I would . be positive These examples show that I have met the standard for level 4

Next week I am aiming to work at level 4 again. To make sure that I am working that level I am going to work on helping my team more and making sure everyone is doing something.

Basketball song

For this song, we had to have 2 verses and 1 chorus I decided to write mine about basketball because it's my favourite sport. This is how it goes.

Verse 1: Frustrated as the team don't listen, trying to encourage them but they don't seem to listen, running down the court with a major expression, I'm nervous as I got the ball thinking I'm not good enough until I got the goal.

Chors: The yelling of the crowd, calling out loud the bouncing of the ball, referees call the buzzer sounds out, out of time. The squeak of my shoes as I stop on a dime.

Verse 2: Getting to the end of it I just want to give up. Trying to maintain my speed as I don't want to give up, hoping I can hold it for one more minute, it will all be worth it in a minute

It was really hard to complete cause all I thought about was songs that came to my head. It was hard to think of things to write.

A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable, for example, I am titanium.

A simile is a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid, for example, as brave as a lion.

Word problems in math's

This week we have been solving a word problem. This is what we had to solve. It has three parts to it and its really challenging. How about you try to solve it!
To solve this my group did place value we put the worms into groups of ten and then added the one, later on, we did this on the first part of the question.

I found it challenging when we were with other groups with different answers and when we were trying to work out whos right.

Some of my group didn't help or talk and when we asked them a question they would just sit in silence and for that, we weren't successful together.

Beats and beyond ;0

This week we are starting a new hurumanu, which one of them is music. In music, we have come up with a name for it called Beats and beyond. On Monday we listened to music like looping what Ed Sheeran does and other cool music. Today we had Mr Mitchell talk to us about the different types of guitars. There were the Steel string guitar, Nylon-string guitar, Dreadnaught guitar and Backpack guitar.

Have you ever wondered what the hole in the guitar is for? Well, it is for when you strum, the noise goes through the hole in the guitar then comes out to play an amazing sound.

The Dreadnaught guitar is a guitar with a big body, it is one of the most common ones. The picture down below is Mr Mitchell holding the guitar.

Here is another photo with a different guitar.

Mars

Aim: To learn about Mars exploration.

1. Rover facts
2. Design, Draw and Make a Rover
3. Mars facts

1. Rover facts:

What are the 5 parts for?
Link: Rovers 5 parts
Fill in the table below.

Name:
Purpose:
Wheels
The wheels have individual steering motors and the steering capability allows the vehicle to turn in place, a full 360 degrees. The wheels also allow the rover to swerve and curve making arcing turns.
Solar Panel
The main source of power for rovers comes from Multi- Panel Solar. The Solar Panels purpose is to provide energy, not to fly.
Laser
From more than 20 feet away, Super Cam can fire a laser to study rock targets smaller than a pencil point. That lets the rover study spots it can't reach with its arms.
Camera
The rover has several camera's focused on engineering and science tasks. Some of the cameras help the rover land and the others are the eyes to help drive around on the surface.
Shovel, rock pick, drill
The Mars 2020 will gather samples from Martian rocks and soil using its drill. The rover will then store the sample cores in tubes on the Martian surface. This entire process is called "sample caching".
