Maths

In the past two weeks of school we have been doing maths but in different classrooms and with different teachers. 7/8sh, 7/8ts and 7/8tz have been doing interchange maths as well. We have been going to different classes for maths and started sharing our learning with them. I am with Miss Birtch class for math and I also have some of my friends in my maths class, I have Anneleise, Mikayla, Brianna and Shanarnia. I am really lucky that I have friends to work with.

In maths, we did a small test to see what level we are on and what group we will get put in. I got put in a group called TAPAWHA and we started off with a blue textbook and I think that is the hardest book you could do. We were learning how many tens are there in numbers less than 1000 and the PK is Place value. We started learning our first object and I struggled at the start but then later on that day I started to understand it properly.

Heres a question for you to solve comment you solving it :)

your question is 991 try and solve it :)

White powder

Today you will be a Forensic Chemist.

A bag of white powder has been confiscated by airport customs.  You need to find out what white powder it is?

Aim: To learn about the makeup of different white powders.

Image result for white powder in piles

There are a number of different white powders in our everyday life. Some of these are harmful and others are not. Test the four white powders listed to see which one has been found at the airport.

You will be given a small amount of 4 white powders on your cardboard. On the black cardboard using a magnifying glass look at the powders.
Look at them under your magnifying glass and record what you see.

These are the four powders we will be using. Upload a photo of each powder.

1.  Cornflour
2.  Baking Soda
3.  Salt
4.  Sugar

Before you add the iodine, vinegar or water you will need to divide each powder into 3.

Materials

1.  Vinegar
2.  Iodine
3.  Water
4.  Sugar
5.  Baking soda
6.  Salt
7. Baking powder
8. magnifying glass
9.Pipette

Steps

1.  grab a piece of paper and split into four
3. Add the four different white powders
4. split powder into threes
5. add the different liquids
6.

Do all the same experiments on the mystery white powder. What is it?
The Mystery white powder is baking soda. The way me and my group found out the mystery white powder was by the way we looked at it with the magnifiner,

Water filter

Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.

Image result for filtration science experiment
Water Filtration Plant

What is the filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

  1.  Water is one of the examples you put water into a filter so you can drink it and it will be nice and clean.
  2.  dirty clothes you have dirty clothes and you put them into the washing machine and the washing machine gets the sweat and dirt out so you can wear the clothes again.
  3. pool when your swimming in a pool you probably hop out then go back in the filter in a pool drains the mud, dirt, and leaves that you put back into the pool.
  4. air the air is filtered by trees, trees help us breathe the healthy air.

Materials

1.funnel
2.container
3.filter paper
3. cup
4.sand
5.stones
6.sisscors

Process - ( use verbs or doing words in each step )

Step 1

Cut the bottle in half

Step 2

Put the top half upside down in the bottle

STEP 3

Add layers of sand and rocks

STEP 4

Get 1 cup of dirty water

STEP 5

Pour the dirty water into the bottle

Findings

Write a short sentence about the water every 1 minute.
Include 'How much water has filtered through', 'How fast it is dripping through', and 'How clear the water is'.

Minutes      1.    The first minute the water went slow but it was dirty                     2.   It got faster and a bit brown                3. It was a bit brown but it was going really slow                    4.    it stopped and it was a little bit brown
Water colour: light brown
Conclusion: This was a really cool experience I liked that we could use natural things and I liked that we could use this in the wilderness. My groups water filter didn't work well but ours werent that bad. I think my groups didn't work because the water went down the sides.

Flight

FLIGHT

Aim: To learn about flight and aerodynamics.

  • In your groups of 3, you will make a paper plane and measure its distance and behaviour.
  • In groups of 3, you will make a water rocket and record its distance and behaviour.
Image result for flight forces

Definition:  The action or process of something in the air.

4 forces of flight:

  1.   Gravity
  1.    Thurst
  1.   Drag
  1.   Lift

Paper Plane:

Material:

1. Paper
2. Ruler
3.Paper clip

Steps:

1. Grab a piece of paper
2. Fold in half
3. Fold two triangles into the middle
4.
Findings:

Plane Type
Distance
Behaviour
Normal
2.7 mSpinning
Ailerons
3.7 mGoing down
Paper clip

3 mSpinning

Conclusion:
The normal plane was last it went 2.7m. Because it wouldn't stop spinning and it went really high not long.

The second one was the paper clip it went 3m. The reason it only went 3m is that the paper clip added a lot of weight so it went down faster.

Then there was the aileron that went 3.7 m. This was because the ailerons gave it more time in the air to glide.

W.A.L.T:Round numbers to the nearest 10,100,1000

For the week I have been learning Round numbers to the nearest 10,100,1000, I have learnt this before but it was a good way to refresh my brain.

I struggle at the start because I didn't remember but when I did I had it in the bag. This was easy once I got it I could complete one question in a few seconds. This was really fun to learn cause I had fun with my group.

Home chemistry 3.

Aim: To see which chemical
the mix creates the most gas.

Hypothesis: (What do I think will happen)
I think that the vinegar and baking soda will make the bigger balloon.

Materials:
  1.  Vinegar ½ cup
  2. baking soda 3 tsp
  3.  salt 3 tsp
  4. soda water ½ cup
  5. yeast 2 tsp
  6.  sugar 1 tsp
  7. x 3 bottles
  8. x 3 ballons
  9. funnel
Steps:
  1.  get your bottles and balloons
  2.  get your ingredients
  3.  add ingredients
  4. watch

Findings:

Balloon 1
( 3 tsp baking soda, ½ cup vinegar)
Balloon 2
( 3 tsp salt, ½ cup soda)
Balloon 3
( 2 tsp yeast, 1 tsp sugar )
Balloon Size (cm)
14.7cm8.612.8 cm
Bubbles
small amountsmall amount large amount

conclusion:
My hypothesis was correct that the baking soda and vinegar created the biggest balloon. It was really cool to see the baking soda go into the vinegar and fill up the ballon.

At the end of it, all the balloons were different coloured and they were all different sizes. The smallest was the salt and soda water was the smallest it is very interesting how different the size is.

I learned that gas can fill a balloon. I also learnt that the largest balloon makes less amount of bubbles.

Lost storyboard

Today we had another session on our Art Hurumanu. Today we learned about, how to do stop motion, puppetry and whiteboard stop motion. We learnt about the different camera angles and new names like 'Annotation' which in the storyboard. Small notes and basically a small note telling you what is happening.
So we worked in groups of four to create a storyboard. I worked with Emily, Maia, Lucy, Heaven and Jasmine. But before we did that we picked something out of the brainstorm that other people did.
